Summer Landscape

This summer and autumn we decided to do some landscaping. It has been several years since we spent a considerable amount of time working in the yard. Let me close summer out with some summer photos:

Winter has arrived once again

It's official, winter is finally here with 4-5 inches of snow. We have started to work on the inside of the house again. But, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share one of our summer photos.

I call this "Watching Grass Grow".

The transition from Summer to Autumn

As autumn falls upon us, I welcome the cooler temperatures. I have enjoyed the long days of summer, but I am looking forward to the cooler temperatures of autumn. We always designate summer as our "work outside" season. This summer has been no different. We have worked on replacing missing roof shingles, redesigning the plexiglass windows of the greenhouse (the first design was a bad design), and doing some landscaping. (Here is a video of one window prep.)

The greenhouse was in need of paint as well as having the windows redesigned.

The newly painted greenhouse is a welcome change. (There will be future modifications on the greenhouse.)

Our uninspiring landscape...

also got some much-needed attention...

we also took some time to install a self-watering system for the hanging baskets, (what a time saver it has been and the flowers have looked more vibrant this summer because of the self-watering.)

With fall setting in and the cooler temperatures, it is a good time to do more of the brick and mortar work. (Stay tuned for updates as they happen.)

Recap of work over the last month

We had a lift here for four weeks (minus Sundays, Tuesdays and bad weather days when we did "no work" days). During that time we tried to get to all of the high places that needed our attention such as windows, window trim, replacing/repairing roof shingles, painting cedar shakes, etc.

Here are the after pictures of the work that we did. We did not have enough time to replace damaged cedar shakes or to paint everything. It will have to wait until the next time we have a lift. Chris was also able to get some point work done on the tower foundation. Now that the lift is gone we will focus on the things we can get done from a ladder, scaffolding, or on the ground. The goal is to get as much of the outside work done before fall arrives.
